Elizabeth Rose Langford es una pintora británica contemporánea que actualmente vive y trabaja en Ibiza. Tiene una licenciatura en Inglés y Filosofía de la Universidad de Nottingham y una licenciatura en Bellas Artes de la City and Guilds of London School of Art.
La práctica de Elizabeth es receptiva al sitio; trabaja con historias y materiales de la tierra, utilizándolos para hacer pinturas y sugerir otra forma de ver y relacionarse con el mundo natural. Sus motivaciones son llamar la atención sobre la crisis global actual, trabajando con materia orgánica para discutir el crecimiento incesante en nombre del „progreso“ y la consiguiente disociación de la humanidad con la naturaleza.
Desde 2013, la práctica de Elizabeth se ha centrado en los sistemas inherentes de los materiales naturales. Pasó cuatro años después de graduarse aprendiendo métodos tradicionales de extracción de color de plantas y tierra, que su práctica actual reexamina en un intento por revelar algo previamente pasado por alto en la única búsqueda del pigmento. Manifiesta estas preocupaciones con la acción de pintar, entre el sitio de los pigmentos y el estudio.
Elizabeth ganó el Premio Griffin Art en 2013 trabajando en colaboración con Luke Cranswick y realizó una residencia con Winsor and Newton en 2014 investigando el alizarín. Desde entonces, ha tenido exposiciones individuales en Londres, Ibiza y Nueva York, ha participado en numerosas exposiciones colectivas y ha realizado diversas residencias en Europa, Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido. Actualmente está trabajando en „REDiscover“, un proyecto de investigación con la Universidad NOVA de Lisboa y UCL London. Elizabeth está representada por Katrina Phillips, Londres.
Elizabeth Rose Langford is a Contemporary British Painter currently living and working in Ibiza. She has a BA in English and Philosophy from Nottingham University and a BA Fine Art, City and Guilds of London School of Art.
Elizabeth’s practice is site responsive; she works with stories and materials from the land, using them to make paintings and suggest another way of seeing and engaging with the natural world. Her motivations are to draw attention to the current global crisis, working with organic matter to discuss unrelenting growth in the name of “progress” and humanity’s consequential dissociation from nature.
Since 2013 Elizabeth’s practise has centered around the inherent systems of natural materials. She spent four years after graduating learning traditional methods of extracting colour from plant and earth matter, which her current practise readdresses in an attempt to reveal something previously overlooked in the sole pursuit of pigment. She manifests these concerns with the action of painting, between the site of the pigments and the studio.
Elizabeth won the Griffin Art Prize in 2013 working collaboratively with Luke Cranswick and undertook a residency with Winsor and Newton in 2014 investigating rose madder. Since then she has had solo shows in London, Ibiza and New York, taken part in numerous group shows and undertaken various residencies in Europe, the US and the UK. She is currently working on “REDiscover” a research project with NOVA University Lisbon and UCL London. Elizabeth is represented by Katrina Phillips, London.
